It's All Peaches and Cream

My latest assignment was to head to the Lexington Humane Society's "cattery" to photograph one of the residents named Peaches.

The cattery... hmmm.  My first thought was of an elderly woman's home with a hundred cats - think "crazy cat lady."  It's not at all like that!  The cattery is a room full of adult cats, lots of windows, cat toys, cat beds, ramps for climbing up high, ledges for the tenants to look down upon their domain.  It's a great place to hang out if you're a cat.  It's clean, light and airy and all the tenants seem to be well adjusted to their living quarters.

My husband and I walked through the door and were immediately met by the welcome committee.  They sniffed us, rubbed against our legs, said hello and were definitely curious about us but welcomed us to their home.  As a lifelong cat owner and currently owned by 2 adult cats, I couldn't get over the friendliness of this bunch of felines!  My husband, Matt, was immediately adopted by a cute pudgeball tabby.   I wish I knew his name...  he was following Matt around everywhere and loved to nibble on his fingers.  He made us laugh out loud with his outwardly affection for Matt.  If we didn't already have 2 cats and a dog that guy would have been going home with us.  Falling in love is an occupational hazard at the Lexington Humane Society.

The star for our day was Peaches.  A 4 yr old pretty shiny orange tabby built as if she's never missed a meal living a mellow routine.  We found her easily enough since she was the only orange tabby in the cattery.

Peaches
Peaches took immediately to her status of diva when she saw the camera come out.

She was super friendly but in a lazy "you come to me, I don't come to you" sort of way.  She was all about being loved on but you have to go to her to do it...  She does not suffer from any insecurity issues...
Peaches giving me her sexy stare down as if to say "I dare you to not fall in love with me"
What I was really impressed about (because my own cats are not like this) is how she gets along with the other cats in the cattery. I caught a glimpse of it in this short video.

I couldn't get over this cats confident personality.  She was fine doing her own thing and fine when others wanted her attention (both human and feline).  I kept thinking what a great cat to have in your home.  I recently had a bit of food poisoning which kept me in bed all day.  I couldn't help but think that a cat like Peaches would have been curled up at the end of my bed like a lovely loyal friend keeping me company and purring me to sleep.

Oh!  Did I mention her purr?  It's a lovely constant steady hum when you pet her.  You just have to hear it for yourself.

And in an effort of full disclosure - Peaches is a full figured gal...
